Before or after Memorial day weekend

    Advertisements
May won out on the polls. Now the question is does everyone want to do a weekend before Memorial Day or do it on Memorial Day weekend. Pros of before would be cheaper tickets and less crowds. Cons of before would be people still in school and less things going on. Pros of Memorial Day weekend would be people being out of school and long weekend off of work and some things might be free with the blue star program. Cons would be crowds are bigger and costs will go up.

I'm not going (so what I have to say may not matter) but DH and I made the mistake of going to D.C. on Memorial Day years ago and it was just awful. Every place was packed to the gills which stressed me out. They also had a huge motorcycle rally going on so traffic was nuts....

I figured it would be chaotic. But wanted to see what everyone else thought.

FYI.. DC from about Mid-April until early August is packed. Tourist season starts around Mid April (When the cherry festival starts).
It won't matter if its Memorial Day weekend, or the weekend before it will be packed, and busy and expensive (hotel wise).
Many kids are still in school until June, the DMV (MD, VA, DC) are in school until about mid-June. So, school may be a factor for many, but not all.

Memorial Day in DC can be extra busy because there are a lot of parades, memorial type events and the rolling thunder (the motorcycles mentioned above). TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) has their annual grief camp, so you will have hundreds of families in from all over honoring the deaths of their loved ones, and they flood the city and Arlington.

Its a matter of what the plan is in order to decide what the best weekend is. No matter what weekend in April-August expect it to be busy, and packed.

yea def not memorial day weekend...i live in arlington and i don't leave my apt that weekend because i hate all the motorcycles in Rolling Thunder (nothing against motorcyclists its just way too many in one place) and theres people everywhere! restaurants, even boring chain ones, are packed and lost people are everywhere...its just annoying lol.

Is there an other or any option?
I only ask because I live here and it really won't matter what weekend for me

May won out in the votes so which ever weekend gets the most wins really. I dont care either way. I would put which one you would prefer honestly. Give some sort of input.
