Why can't anyone be happy for us?

I feel as if everyone thinks my relationship is a complete joke considering the situation in which we met. My db and I met when we became penpals through a military website. I fell in love with him before I even physically met him. No one understands. Our love is real, so real, that I am moving down to Georgia to be with him. My mother is the worse with comments like; "I really wish you wouldn't move!" and "You're too young to move half way across the country!". HOLD UP, I am 21 years old... an adult.. I can make my own decisions ( no one respects the fact that I am capable of making my own decisions). And if I am too young now, when will I be old enough? I love this man, why can't she see that and be happy for us? Two: my girlfriends love my db, but aren't the most supportive when it comes to the fact that I am moving. They keep saying "Just don't rush into anything". HOLD UP AGAIN, db and I will make the best decision for US. If we decide we are ready to be engaged, then we will be engaged. It isn't like we are going to the courthouse tomorrow to get hitched then popping out a kid (no offense), we are enjoying being boyfriend and girlfriend ( and loving every moment of it!). I am happy for everyone when they've an exciting new adventure, but the feeling is NEVER mutual. What to do, ladies? It's breaking my heart, but will not stop me from moving next week with my love. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I say follow your heart and move with the man you love! Don't let other people tell you how to live YOUR life :o)
I met my husband on Yahoo personals back in March '08. We we got engaged in June, married in July, and he deployed in September! Our love is stronger than anything!

I believe with my whole heart that things like this can and do happen. True love can come about in some really strange ways. You have to understand that no one is trying to ruin it for you though. It is just our society, the odds truly are against you.

Follow your heart. Eventually you will gain everyone's support when you prove them wrong, but try not to get angry with them. It is only their love for you that makes them apprehensive. No one wants to see someone they love get hurt.

Maybe try explaining that you understand their concern, and that most people in your situation wind up with their hearts broken, but that you love him enough that you are willing to risk it. Ask them to love and support you and your decisions, and to be there for you if it works out perfect, or if it fails.

Good luck in all that you do. I am sure you will have the time of your life in Georgia, and everywhere the military life takes you. The first few years of a relationship have some of the most exciting changes. I really hope you enjoy everything life throws at the two of you. If you can learn to laugh through the hard times, you will make it. AND KISS EVERY NIGHT AND EVERY MORNING, EVEN IF YOU ARE PISSED AT EACH OTHER.

You two look so sweet. I wish you all the best!

We all have faith in you! You guys can do it. Don't let people tear at your heart. It's happened to me, and I do regret it. But, then again... If I didn't let my family and friends tear me away from my ex, I wouldnt be with my DB in the navy now....

I met my soldier online and I knew that I loved him before we met, as well. We have been together for over 4 years now and I love him more now than I did the day we met.
Don't let someone else make your decisions for you. It's your life, not theirs. Even if it turns out to be a mistake, which I doubt it will, you can at least say it was YOUR choice, not someone else's. I made the mistake of letting other people keep me from a person I loved once and it caused me years of heartache. I swore to myself I would NEVER let that happen again. Trust me, it is NEVER worth it!
    Follow YOUR heart!
    I am happy for you!!!!

I can understand where your coming from. I met my soldier when we were 12 years old. We were just friends. It wasnt until we started writing letters to eachother that we really fell in love. The love you find through writing is so strong and no one can tell you any different.
