Hey you guys!!! I have been dating my boyfriend for 3 months and we really hit it off!!! I love him so much and I know that that is really hard to believe considering we have only been together for 3 months, but I do!! He just got deployed to IRAQ and I miss him so much!!! And its really hard because I am use to being really silly!!! And I dont know if he wants me to continue to be really silly or he wants me to go into great detail about how much I love him!!! I know its hard to make someone happy in that situation, but I really want to. Does anyone have any suggestions, because I am really new at this!! I mean he is not sad all the time, but its just not the same!! I am use to him being happy and silly all the time!! What should I do??

DF and I are the same way. We spend a good majority of our time being fun and silly. In this situation silly is kind of hard because of the seriousness of the situation. He has been put into a world where silly doesn't really exist. You have to find a balance, you have to be serious at times but don't lose your fun side. Even though he doesn't show it, he needs you to be silly fun self. Let him know how much you love him but do it in both a serious and a fun way. He needs both.

I try to do a balance. I tell him honestly how sad I am, and how hard stuff is. Then we'll talk about every day life, stuff I know he misses even if it's just stupid and basic. I usually try to end on a goofy note so he'll smile and laugh and that'll be the lasting memory of me. I always joke about me giving him wet willies and stuff and that usually makes him laugh. It makes me happier to hear him laugh too, makes everything feel okay for a second.

I am in my fifth month of deployment and we are still searching for the right balance. Sometimes it is hard to know what to say. My DB is also in Iraq and he has told me that he hates talking about that cause it just reminds him of how awful it is and worries me. Most of the time we goof around and talk about everyday life and then end with a little mushiness I would just suggest asking him. Ask him what he wants to talk about or what makes it harder to hear while he is over there. Hopefully you guys can find your balance.
