No doubt about it, deployment is one of the hardest parts of the military, especially with our current state of war. One of the most common questions I hear as a fellow military significant other is "Does it ever get easier?". Most "seasoned" spouses will tell you that it doesn't ever get easier, no matter how many years you've been doing this, no matter how many deployments you've conquered. The good news is that, as you gain more experience with this lifestyle and the inevitable separations, you also gain the ability to more easily cope with them. It's never easy to say goodbye to your loved one but, with enough coping skills and support, the time will fly and you'll be preparing for your quickly approaching homecoming that seemed like eternity just a few months ago! The first step towards the most painless deployment possible is preparation. There's nothing worse than having an emergent situation come up, financial, medical or otherwise, in the middle of a deployment, then realizing you have no idea what you're supposed to do and no power of attorney to do it, even if you knew how. So, being prepared for the various things that can come up is the biggest favor you can do for yourself and your family. So, first things first, what exactly do you need to do to prepare? Please see our DEPLOYMENT PREPARATION page for more information on how you can prepare, as well as printable checklists to help you keep track of the things you've done and things you need to do before your significant other leaves.
