Wedding Plans from Afar?
Hey Ladies - So I live in WI and I am planning a wedding in the San Diego area for when DF returns from Iraq in March. I still don't know a date obviously for that far out, but I would like to start some of the planning. It's just going to be a few friends as witnesses, no reception, but I still want to have a Christian ceremony and all the other fun stuff!!!
Any advice on, A. planning a wedding from afar, or B. planning a wedding in SD??? ![]() I'm kinda at a loss of where to start!!! Thanks ladies!

I think you should get a notebook (they are really cheap at Wal-Mart right now) and start looking through magazines for ideas. As you find ones you like, put them in the notebook, and write your thoughts about it. You can be looking at invitations (even if you print them yourself, the ideas will be good). Look at cakes, etc. Also, just in case you decide to go that route, start googling things about wedding vows and such.
With a small wedding, I feel personal details are important. Since you are going to be keeping it small, you don't have to worry about the show of it all. So really take the extra initiative to make this day exactly what you and him want. Don't worry about trying to make anyone else happy. Start talking to him about what specific things are important to him. Like would he like to have a Marine Corps ceremony, or include parts of Marine Corps tradition. Or would he like to keep that completely out of it. If he wants it, then you will need to talk to someone at his command about 2 months before to get them to work on that part - only they can plan that part, but it helps. In your notebook, make a list of what little things are important to you. You can also start googling what flowers will be in season when you are estimating the wedding will be. If the flowers are in season, you could spend less money on them. You can also start planning things like the reception early too. And another good tip is to start making an estimated timeline. That way when it gets close you know what you have to do and when you have to do it. Start with things like 'the week before', 'two weeks before' and then you can change those to actual dates when you have a day set. Good luck! |
