I don't know how religious you are or anything, but a church ceremony was extremely important to us. At the same time, everyone knew we had already been to the JP. It turns out that in our pastor's ceremony book, there was a ceremony that was specifically for this kind of thing. It recognized that we were married in a legal ceremony but wanted the blessing of our church and family. We also did a hand blessing and a ring blessing at the end. It was absolutely perfect for us.

We were engaged for 14 months before we got married.
Personally, I think it's pointless to have a JOP wedding, that's for the majority a secret, then turn around a couple months later and have a big ceremony. It's something I don't understand the logic behind. That's my personal opinion, which I don't hold it against anyone who does it.

i feel the same way. but then again, that's just my personal preference, like jennie said, i don't hold it against anyone if it is/was their choice. |

We were engaged for about 6 months and planned our big wedding in that time (I was taking time off from school and DH was finishing up training), got married in the church I always wanted to get married in (the one my parents, grandparents, brother were married in and the one I was baptized in). It was a smallish ceremony...nothing fancy. Just about 150 people were invited. We spent about 1/2 or less of the "average" wedding, but for us, it was perfect.
