Need Some Opinions, Please - Weddings

Hello,

Ok so my husband and I got married May 13, 2005. It was small and beautiful, but it just wasn't complete for me - for a few important reasons...

#1 reason being, none of my own family was there including my mother so she was unable to give me away. Long Story.

#2 reason being, I just had my son 2 months before my wedding so I was not in a wedding dress - it was more like a very formal prom dress.

#3 reason being, we had no kind of reception at all afterwards.

#4 reason being, I never had a bridal shower/bachelorette party (which wasn't that big of a deal, really)

So, I want a real wedding. I want a wedding with my family there, my mother to walk me down the aisle, I want to be in a real wedding dress, and I want a reception afterwards. I want to keep the date we have of May 13, and next year would work perfect because it would give us enough time to plan/save for it, and it's actually on a Sunday instead of a Friday like it was when we got married. Yes, I got married on a Friday the 13th.

But, Does that sound bad? to say I want another wedding? to say I want another one to make it "complete" for me?

Please Help Me.

that doesnt sound bad at all... sooo many people do that!! i totally PLAN to do that whne i get married, mainly for entirely cynical reasons, but there is no reason to not have a big celebration wedding type thing on your anniversary!

Doesn't sound bad either. We had a very small but beautiful wedding, I want a real big wedding with both our families there and I want to be walked down the isle too. I say if you can do it and afford it then go for it!!!

I have definitely decided that I do want another wedding, a bigger one like I described. And I've been putting ideas together on paper as far as guests, where I want it, where I would like a honeymoon, most importantly how much we could actually afford to spend on it...but I have another problem...

I've never mentioned this to my husband, and I don't know how to bring it up! Any ideas for this one? lol

just say "wouldnt it be fun to do the fancy wedding thing on our anniversary?, i really think it would be great now that we can afford it" HTH

Meg, DH and I just did a County Clerk's wedding and then a year later had our big wedding. Though it was still small and all our family was here. Just let me know if you need any help with anything.

Id have another wedding. It can be as expensive or inexpensive as you make it. We had a nice medium size wedding (well I think it was medium size!) we had about 50 guests. we served food and had cake. Everyone left with a nice favor. I wore a real wedding dress and we had a photographer. We only spent $1,500 on the intire wedding. We spent and extra $300 on our honey moon. We drove to San Francisco. We bought the food from Costco and prepared it ourselves the day before. I wore my moms dress. It is from the 70's but its still so beautiful. My aunt did the alterations and she made the wedding cake. We had a photographer do the photos. It was his side job. my dad knew him from work. The pictures turned out awful. Its just the worst thing to have such bad pictures of such a wonderful day! If we ever do it again I will spend good money to get good pictures! The favors I made were pretty cheap. I bought candle holders that were kinda fish bowl shaped and I used chalk to color salt one of our colors put that in the bottom and put in a candle that was the other of our colors. Then I tied a little note around it that said "Thank you for brightening our day." total cost for that was about $50. I had lots of nice little touches too. the flowers we all carried were silk but the ones on the tables were real. we got married at the same park where we had our first "date". That was free we just had to reserve the shelter months before. It turned out to be really really nice. We can chat if you want some other ideas!
