Maybe you could have a destination wedding to limit the number of people that will go.

my DHs family is huge (we didn't have a wedding, but plan to on our 10 yr)... but we thought of doing a very small ceremony with just immediate family, and then a HUGE reception with everyone!

DB has a rather larger family too and I'm all for running away somewhere

I asked DB if we could run away to get married...he said "when?" I said "I don't know...2010? whenever you propose?" I think he thought I was beating him to the punch He said he wanted a reception I said "honey, you plan whatever wedding you want and when you get sick of it we'll run away"
