Traditional wedding or Destination wedding?

DF and I have a little more than a year to go before our wedding date so we're trying to decide where we want to have it. It's in between my hometown and a destination wedding.

I would love to have a wedding in my hometown because I want the typical big wedding with the big congregation but since our wedding is the week after New Years I don't think a lot of people will travel to be here.

While I go back and forth, he wants the destination wedding. Has anyone had one? Where did you have it? If we decide to have one we're thinking Virgin Islands or Hawaii....

Any thoughts?

Ours is in my hometown which is a beach so I ended up with the best of both worlds. Honestly, I don't know how I would have picked between them.

A family friend had a SMALL destination wedding (more like a ceremony with just immediate family or so) somewhere tropical (I can't remember where). Then, they had a large reception for all of their family and friends when the timing was more convenient but shortly after. Would something like that work for you?

We did Disney... but my fam is only an hour and a half away. I liked that everyone got a vaycay who came. It did mean less gifts, but we didn't care. It was perfect for us.

Wow you're lucky! That was my thought, have a smaller ceremony and the reception later, since it would be January in MO and FREEZING cold with possible ice and snow... But still yet, it's hard to choose, I think I've changed my mind like well over 20 times so far

I didn't think about the less gifts thing but I'm not worried about that either, we already have everything we would put on a registry anyway

I bet Disney was amazing!
