Deciding

Did you decide when to have your first child, or was it a surprise? If you decided, what were the things you considered, if you don't mind me asking.

We weren't using protection when I had Riley. But we hadn't been doing so for about 1.5 years, so we just assumed I wasn't very fertile. Then right before deployment and a move from WA to CA, it happened.

We had decided we were ready if it happened, but didn't think it was going to happen.. so it was not planned, but not an "accident" either.

Are you guys thinking about trying?

Well, not trying, but adopting. Something has come up with a family member, and we really want to step up, but we have a lot of decisions to make. So just curious how other people decide it's time to be a family.

We knew we wanted to have a baby right away...but we weren't planning on getting pregnant the first week of our marriage

We decided to start trying right after we got married..I stopped BC a few months before that though. We did because we felt like we were married now and didn't feel like we should prevent..we both wanted a child and felt like if it was to happen the night we got married then it was meant to. Although it took forever! lol We didn't really think about deployments or money or anything like that.

Wow that's really cool! Honestly, I don't think you are ever truly ready... there are so many surprises, good and not so good, along the way that I don't think you can ever be 100% ready. But that's very admirable that you guys are considering stepping up like that! Good luck with your decision!

We decided. Well, I decided I woke up one morning and said "Honey, I'm tired of waiting." He said "<long pause> Ok. " 6 weeks later we had a bean.

I was thinking you are never 100% ready but didn't know if it would seem wrong to think that, according to other mothers. This def wasn't in our life plan, but when I think about a lil boy related to me that nobody wants... I kind of just want to say screw plans and what we we're used to. We can help him.
