How to Stop the Pill in order to start trying to concieve
So my SO just told me he's ready to start trying for babies and I'm ecstatic. One issue though: I'm on the pill, and I know if you just stop taking it you bleed profusely for what seems like forever... is there any other way to stop the pill?

The bleeding is different person by person. I stopped and my period was off but I didn't just bleed. I think as long as you're ready to stop just cut it off cold turkey! It took a little bit to get out of my system though (I was on it for 4 years) so that sucked but now it's great!

i never had this issue. Perhaps take the pills until the last week where it would be placebo and just not take the next pack? Or contact your doc. if you are worried about bleeding. Good luck!

Hmm I've never heard of tons of bleeding when you come off the pill, only if you were on the depo shot. Just stop the pill when your done with that cycle.

You should be able to complete your current cycle (it's not good to stop in the middle) and be done with them. I've never heard of bleeding profusely just because you go off the pill. Your cycle may be off and your flow might be a little heavier. I got pregnant 10 days after my last pill so I'm really not sure, though. But I didn't have any bleeding other than my normal 2-3 day period after my last pill.

Whenever you're ready, just stop taking them. It's not common to bleed profusely after stopping BC - as a matter of fact, that would be a good thing to call your doctor about, if it happens.
It's best to go through a complete cycle before you stop taking the pill. (So, when you get to your placebo pills, just stop all together. Or, take them then don't start up the next pack. The placebo's don't do anything, so it doesn't matter.) But you can stop taking them at any time. Your cycle might be a bit off the first few months, but there shouldn't be any major bleeding (again, if there is, call your doc). And you should be able to start TTC'ing immediately after you stop taking your pills. Good luck.

You have to take into consideration how long you were on the pill, type of pill (estrogen based / progesterone based) your own body as well.
Some individuals it can take months for cycles to regulate, though most of these cases are due to very long term use of the pill. Believe it or not but weight also plays a factor into how your body will react when you come off the pill. For example, skinny girls are more known for developing shorter luteal phases that can take up to six months to correct. One reason for the cause is most birth controls lack in a natural vitaminB6 which depletes the body of it. If you find yourself in this situation you should start off taking 50mg then bump it up to 100mg if there is not improvement. Some people get pregnant right away coming off birth control and have a wonderful healthy pregnancy. Some people get pregnant right away and miscarry before the 2nd trimester. There is a link between twins and coming off the pills due to your hormones trying to readjust to certain levels. Bottom Line: Each person is different.
