Copper IUD???
Anyone have one? What's your experience with it been like?
I finally convinced Joe to "let" me get one of these instead of him getting a vasectomy. I'm only 22, so I'm not 100% sure that I'm never going to want another child, KWIM? I can't use any form of hormonal bc because it turns me into The ***** From Hell. Plus while I was on the pill every month on my 9th pill I was on the floor of my bathroom crying all night for no reason.

I have one and I love it. I have the marina one. Its good for 5 years and is suppost to give off a slight horomone that helps lighten or in my case stop your period. That means less or no cramps, no *****iness every month, no cravings, no mood swings. It works in 3 different ways. First it creates a mucus plug in the cervex so sperm can't get in, second it gives off a horomone that kills the sperm, and last its prevents implantation if an egg does get fertalized. It has a 99.99% effective rate. I felt the same. When I got mine I was only 23 and Im not sure Im done having kids yet. Also I would never take away my own ability have to have children. It hurt for like a minute while it was put in. But its so worth it. I don't feel it and really I don't even think about it. To me its like Im not on B/C because I have nothing to think about. Its just there. I was never told to check it every month or anything. I just be sure to go in every year to have an exam. There is another one thats good for 10 years but it can make your periods much worse and it can cause severe cramping and horrible mood swings. Im not up for that! HTH!
ETA the horomone it gives off stays in your uterus and does not effect your body like regular horomonal B/C. |

I have the copper IUD that lasts 10 years. I have had it for about a year and half. I love it! My periods were a bit heavier then normal for the first 4 or 5 months, but now they are back to normal. I am also a person that normally gets really bad cramps. While on b/c pills I didn't really get the cramps as much (but b/c pills made me so moody and also sick where I would throw up at least once a day for the first 2 weeks of every new pack of pills). ANyway I do still get some cramping, but it is usually pretty minor.

Yeah, I've read up on the Mirena one, but I'm not taking chances with any kind of hormones for my family's sake. If I was just a little extra *****y a few days a month I might, but no, I turn into a completely different and horrible person.

Airyn have you talked to your Dr. about the horomones? They don't go into your body. They stay in your uterus. You shouldn't be effected by them at all.

I have the copper IUD. I got it a few months after I had Taylor and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Nothing to worry about or remember. I didn't want the one with hormones because I have PCOS, and I didn't know how my body would react to it, so I went with the copper one. I can't say it has affected my periods because they were always bad, but it can cause slighty worse cramps.
