from what i've seen, you'll have to check the car seat like luggage and won't be able to have it on the plane. i believe they wrap it in plastic and put a tag on it. each carrier may have different regulations though so i'd call to double check their specific rules.

Ohhhhhhh stand by buddy pass. You will have to count it as a carry on and it will have to be foldable and capable of fitting under your seat or in the overhead compartment. Otherwise they will check it at the gate. IF they can do that on a stand by... call the airline

Depending on the airline, they'll also tell you that they're liable for loss but not damage on the carseat when it's checked. So if they crush it, you won't get reimbursed, but if they lose it you will...
but true. We were told that when we flew Continental.

No you will be fine... trust me!!!
Here's what you do. Bring your car seat with you. If they have an extra seat they will let you bring it on the plane and use it (for free). If not you carry it up to the plane and they will load it underneath just like they do for strollers. I have seen it done MANY times!!! I just flew in from last week and saw people check their car seats right at the plane.

It's because they had an inordinate number of passengers breaking their carseats and claiming the airline did it.

Yet more evidence that common decency is going out the window and that more and more people suck.
