Im planning/booking my first trip by myself, so I can see Db on his r&r. So I was wondering if any one has any tips for me? Like how long in advance should I book it. What time is the best? Any recomendations on airlines? Any that I should avoid?

first and foremost i'd say make sure your tickets are refundable. that may cost a little bit more (not much) but worth it in the long run. military changes it's mind more than any
stereotypical woman . i avoid Southwest Airlines like the plague . and double check everything you've packed and that you're in line with all the flying regulations. and then have fun!!

to answer two of your other questions... you might check around on orbitz for a number of dates and flight departures. flying red-eye on a weekday morning tends to get you a very cheep tickets. example fly out a day early at say 6:15 am thursday and fly back on monday 6:30 am
. another thing to try is calling the airlines personally and see what you can get. if you tell them you saw a flight on orbitz by continental for $359 on such-n-such day, ask if they can do better. bargaining can go far. and also mention why you're flying. you'd be surprised what you can get ! and don't forget to look into transportation for when you get to your destination. he may say he can pick you up from the airport, but don't be surprised if some job-related thing comes up at the last minute and keeps you waiting. be prepared for absolutely anything and everything! (speaking from experience...).

Hi Andrea. I went to visit my honey last month and I planned and booked my trip 2 months in advance (plane tickets and airport car rental). I looked at cheaptickets.com and cheapflights.com to get an idea of the sales fares. I personally travelled Jet Blue and I think the service is great. If you want to try saving a few bucks get a connecting flight as those are usually cheaper.
I don't think you are for planning 5 months ahead. I think you are smart! I am going to go to Ft. Drum again in early '09 for my DB's arrival back at post and I am planning it from now....now THAT'S ![]() I love planning vacay's and trips actually.
