1/2 priced airline tickets

My friend bought a ticket because her grandfather died and she called the airline to get a discount. The ticket was $1200 but with the discount it was $590. I've never heard you could get a discount to go to a funeral. She had to give them the name of the funeral home, phone #, and name of the deceased so they could check it out.

Thats a huge discount:inshock

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Yeah, it's called a bereavement fare. I have never seen one that deeply discounted though.

Yeah I've heard of them, but they are usually SOOOOOOOO expensive even with the discount... that's pretty awesome!!! Sad for your friend but great that she got a great price on the ticket!

Yup. Bereavement fare. Basically, since it is an emergency and you don't have a lot of time to plan your flight, they give you that fare.

And thats a major discount... Im sorry for her loss

We definately didn't get a deal like that when My nieces died.
We got a discount but no where near 1/2

Sometimes you can still get a better deal just by buying your ticket online though. That is a wonderful discounted rate. It usually isnt quite as much!

When my nephew passed away last march I was told that they didnt do that anymore. Guess I talked to the wrong person.

I've always found it helpful to hang up, call again, and talk to another person. The first person usually doesnt know what they are talking about
