Has anyone heard.....
There was an email sent to all of us in the battery abt meeting soldiers at the airport. It says that you check w/ the airline and they give you a pass to go through security and you can meet them at the gate instead of waiting w/ everyone else. Does anyone have experience/info on this??

I think it depends on the airport. When I went to pick up a friend from the airport when he returned, no one was allowed passed the check point. No family members & no friends. That was at the San Antonio International airport. I don't have any experience with any other ones.

Here's the actual letter, minus names!! I checked, doesn't violate any rules:
The Transportation Security Administration has issued a directive pertaining to military passengers at U.S. airports. According to Security Directive 1544-01-10w, families of military members may be granted access to sterile concourse areas to escort the military passenger to the gate or to meet a military passenger's in-bound arrival at the gate. > > The family member can go to the airline that the military member is flying on and receive a pass to go to the gate. They will be required to have a pass and a photo ID to get through the security checkpoint. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to stay with the departing military member longer before they depart, or to be able to greet them at the gate upon their arrival. This is a wonderful change, spread the word. > See the attachment for more information. |

It depends on the airline. When DH came home for a visit from Bahrain he flew into Chicago. All international flights had a place(roped off) for people to meet their party. The had very strict rules and even took my camera because I went to take a pic of the kids before he came out and I guess it's a big no no. I would check with the airline before you go so you know how they work.
