VA Beach

DH and I are thinking of taking a little trip to VA Beach later this month.

We hope to stay in lodging, though I'm not sure which base to look into? I haven't been to VA Beach in about 7 years, and I stayed in a hotel with my parents. What are some good beaches? Which posts/bases are closest?

What kind of fun things are there to do with a three year old?

If you're driving, try to get a room at Dam Neck (Navy) or at Fort Story (Army). They're on the water, and they have the best beach areas.

HOWEVER- hotels here in the resort area are running at about 40% capacity; hoteliers are dying. You can probably get a good deal at an oceanfront hotel.

The Virginia Aquarium is very close to the resort area; it's a decent facility and kids like it. There's also a really fun water park/mini golf right there too (Ocean Breeze Water Park). There are the usual Goofy Golf places up and down the oceanfront, and it's safe enough that you can walk up and down the strip with a young child until about 10-ish. After that the drunks come out, so maybe not so much fun.....
