Intl Flying through LAX

Anyone fly through LA going international? How is customs? Did it take you long to pass through? How long did it take you to go from gate to gate? Any info you can provide will be great!!

you can never say with LAX, honestly. I live here and it's the only airport I use. I have used it a bunch for both domestic and international flights. Some days it's smooth sailing, you get through security and to your gate in record time, same for customs. Other days it's pure hell and you stand in security line for almost 2 hours! I have had it happen. I suggest to prepare for the worst, I would rather sit around bored waiting to board my flight than be stuck at security having to watch the clock and panicking. It's the worst feeling ever!

Yeah...having to run across Newark to catch my flight back home from Portugal sucked. I was petrified I would miss the plane.

Are the gates really spread out or is it fairly easy to get from one place to another once you're past security? We're flying Quanta out of LAX but we'll be on a different (undecided atm) airline on the way back to FL.
