*edit - update* Just got off the phone with the insurance company and she said it's more likely that they'll just opt to replace the whole roof!!
![]() Our deductable is $1080 - so we'll have to pay that but I'm fiiine with that! We can cover that - my parents might have to help out and we'll owe them, but it'll be worth it!! No more leaky roof!! And, no, I didn't climb on the roof and put a tarp down. ![]() */update* So We're in the middle of the windiest day I've EVER had - it's not raining hard, yet - but the wind is shaking the house and ripping shingles off the freaking roof! Do I need to leave the house? Climb up there and put a tarp down to keep the house from flooding? I was sitting here at hte comp and see the trees dancing around outsie - and strips of paper flying around...then I hear a huge THUNK and look out the window and there's a big shingle on my truck! I step outside and see all sorts of stuff from the BACK yard in teh front and there are shingles all over the yard - I go to the back of the house and look at the roof and huge 10' section of shingles are torn up and gone!! I'm freaked - is my house going to fall apart? Last edited by Aunt Sponge; 03-19-2008 at 10:35 AM. |

I don't think you need a to leave and definitely don't try putting a tarp on in that wind. When we lived in Virginia we had wind so bad our gutters blew off and we lost a ton of shingles.. but the roof never leaked.

The wind is completely dead, now - thankfully! But, yeah, I agree - unwise ot be on the roof or outside, even.
I almost want to go to my Dad's house - but that would require me to drive through all the incoming storms. I'm just going to lay low and keep a close eye on the sky for tornados...a constant problem around here |

- yeah, a bit of overreacting on my part. But, it's no secret I live in a shack of a house, really - I can very easily see it just caving in one day. ![]() I'm actually kind of happy about this - This is a HUGE and obvious section of damage = new roof or at least a damn good repair! We've had a very small leak in the roof for 2 years, now - and I have NO idea where it's coming from and neither does anyone from the insurance company - but I've been trying to get them to fix it for years...Anywhoo! They keep saying it'll cost less than the deductable to get it fixed, so it's on our heads. So - maybe this is MY good luck in disguise?
