TSA announcement for military passengers family


The Transportation Security Administration has issued a directive pertaining
to military passengers at U.S. airports. According to Security Directive
1544-01-10w, families of military members may be granted access to sterile
concourse areas to escort the military passenger to the gate or to meet a
military passenger's inbound arrival at the gate.

The family member can go to the airline that the military member is flying
on and receive a pass to go to the gate. They will be required to have a
pass and a photo ID to get through the security checkpoint. This is a
wonderful opportunity for families to stay with the departing military
member longer before they depart, or to be able to greet them at the gate
upon their arrival. This is a wonderful change, spread the word.

Also, some (not all) airlines allow non-family members (i.e. girlfriends, fiances, etc) to do the same. Best thing to do is check with the airline at the airport. Worst they can do is say "no."

They have been doing that for a few years now. All you have to do is go to the airline they are flying with and show them your military ID. They give you a pass. I had to do it once when DH was flying in. It was nice to see him right when he got off the plane.

I am going to the airport today tonight to pick up dh.. So all I need to do is go to the airline counter and tell them dh's name and show my dependent ID and I can meet him at the gate???

Yep that's it! Although some airlines are better than others about it! One wouldn't let me through until the plane actually landed, so what was the point of even letting me through? Jerks.
