Marshmallow Fondant & Dog Bone shaped cake
This is what I will be attempting this week. My doggy boy is turning 10 on Friday and I'm pretty determined to do his birthday right!
My plan at THIS moment (subject to change depending on how I feel) is to make a dog bone shaped cake out of rice crispies (gluten free) and cover that with marshmallow fondant. I have not made rice crispy treats in years so I'm not sure where to start with that till I look up a recipe ![]() Then I want to make another dog bone shaped cake out of regular cake and if the first marshmallow fondant comes out well then I may cover that one as well. For this I already know the kind of cake I plan to make. I also know that I'll need to make 4 round cakes (8") and one big rectangular cake for the "body" of the bone. Hopefully it will all come together and not look like a huge mess. Any tips or advice for me please? I've never done the fondant thing before so this is brand new to me. I wish I had done fondant on my husbands family guy cake back in April but hopefully I can make it work this time so I don't have to "wish" in the future. |

That sounds so cute and so yummy! Don't feel forced to make regular cake if it is going to be hard to resist. Your family and friends will understand and respect if you have gluten free desserts. However, I'm pretty sure rice krispies are not made in a dedicated environment/have some sort of gluten in them.
I'm not positive though, make sure you check!!

I won't have a problem resisting the regular cake as I don't even like cake all that much. DH will have plenty of friends here to eat it this weekend - but if I'm tired or too sick I will only make the rice crispy cake.
I'm also not using the normal rice crispys. You're right in that they aren't gluten free. They contain malt which comes from barley, unfortunately. . But I tried a gluten free (truly) kind and it really isn't bad so I planned to substitute that kind. It's this one - http://www.usmillsllc.com/usmills/pr...ion.php?id=143

I love the GF Chex cereal! It was the first GF staple item I bought when I found out - and I ate just that and plain chicken and veggies for a couple days while I got my bearings.

If you don't want a huge cake you can just cut out a dog bone pattern, bake 9x13 and cut it out of the cake (that will serve 10-15 good slices)
For a big cake I would cut a 9x13 in half and put that together for the long part, then take 2 9 inch pans for the sides and cut a heart shape with a flat bottom for each side. It will be a huge cake though. (You could serve 20-30 people good sized slices.) |
