Question about baking cookies - Sweets & Treats

Hi. I want to make some cookies to send to my boyfriend while he's overseas. I've heard that you shouldn't use butter because the cookies won't last as long. However, if I use shortening, won't the cookies taste funny? What about using half butter & half shortening? What kind of shortening, Crisco? Thanks.

You can bake them like you normally would and then just seal them really tight, it depends on how long an average package of yours takes to get there... I would check out the carepackage section in during deployment... lots of threads about this!

i bake with butter and ship them, and so far they've tasted fine and no one's gotten sick! i wouldn't wanna bake with shortening at all, icky!

I always use 1/2 butter 1/2 crisco in my cookies - and the cookies always made it over there tasting great (according to DH and everyone he shared with). I just put them in ziplock freezer bags and used a straw to suck out as much air as possible.

One time my friend's husband made cookies using Crisco, and they came out tasting like fried chicken.

While I haven't heard anything about the cookies going bad, the 1/2 butter flavored crisco, 1/2 butter option works wonderfully.

ive always used regular butter but when u package them put them in a pringles can or something like to so that they dont get smushed!
