non-chocolate cookies to make it 2 weeks in the mail? - Sweets & Treats

DH's in Germany right now and it takes 2 weeks for things to get to him. Can I use my usual cookie base and just use shortening instead of butter? I usually use a chocolate chip cookie base for all of the cookies I make, except peanut butter cookies....

I'd like to make a 1/2 batch with butterscotch chips for DH, and a 1/2 batch with chocolate chips for his roomie (he's a younger guy, and I feel guilty sending DH stuff when the roomie doesn't have anyone to send him anything)

If I can't use the usual cookie base, could you give me a recipe to use?

Okay, since I haven't gotten anything back, I'm replacing the butter with shortening and hope that the cookies survive. I'll let you know how it goes.

try cinnamon sugar cookies, or something like that. I have sent DH cookies when he is deployed some took about 3 weeks to get to him, Choc chip and never had a problem.

Let me know how it works out! I've been hesitant to send any home baked goods to DH since it's so darn hot right now. Figured he could wait until it gets cooler.

So did you substitute shortening for butter with your chocolate chip cookies? Cause I made him cookies with the chocolate chip base dough, used shortening instead and butterscotch chips.

I never changed up my recipes and stuff got to SO just fine, about 2 weeks.

i sent butter-based sugar cooking to afghan, it took 2ish weeks to get there and was fine. there were brownies in there too, he loved all of it.

I sent Justin peanut butter, oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip-- regular recipe, and they all got there just fine... just under two weeks later!

Well, DH got the cookies, despite Vegas heat they were soft and he and the roomie want more asap.

I did them with shortening instead of butter

Glad to hear they got there okay.

When my husband was in Afghanistan, I always sent Oatmeal. (They are his favorite!) The recipe I used didn't call for butter and they always made it there in great condition.
