You can buy premade fondant in the store. Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Micheals.. they all carry it. It's in the cake decorating section. I use it sometimes if I have a small project and not a lot of time to make my own. It tastes pretty decent. Just make sure you put a fair amount of buttercream underneath it, or the cake will be too dry. The buttercream underneath also makes it easier to smooth down the fondant.
It is very easy to make though, and TONS cheaper. For the small box of Wilton fondant, it's about $8-$10 and it only covers about an 9x9 cake. You can buy the indredients and make your own for a large cake for less than that.

You don't have to buy it.. you can make it. I have made my own lots of times. It's way cheaper to make it.

Id suggest making it yourself. Have you ever tasted wilton fondant? It tastes like crap. I do wedding cakes for a living and I find marshmallow fondant tastes the best and is the easiest to make.
Simple recipes are easy to find online. I do mine by feel, but I think I use a 2lb bag of powdered sugar, a couple tbs water and a bag of marshmallows. |

I didn't think the Wilton fondant was bad, but it's not the best I've ever had, either.
