Taking one day at a time!!
![]() ![]() |
Well we had the public school in our area come in and test Jacob. He has been having some social issues and anger issues.
The Speech Pathologist and School Psych. spent a few days evaluation him at daycare/preschool. I talked to the school psych today and he says Jacob will qualify for care/assistance thru the school district because he is classifying Jacob with Autism. He says that Jacob is High Functioning but he needs help and assistance with his social issues and his parallel playing. That these are signs of Autism. Also the questionnaire that Brian and I filled out as well as the ones his teachers filled out all linked him at either borderline or right at Autistic. Can anyone give me some advice and info please? We are looking for orders possible soon. Want to know if this will effect anything. Just need help please.

Instead of responding to your PM, I'll put the info here so others can see as well.
First things first, get that diagnosis, from there you can get on EFM and get an IEP and probably in state preschool too. What city do you live in? THere is probably a Regional Center or Head Start in your area and they can help. Tricare is great about covering stuff, we got all of Riley's evaluations and therapies approved and paid for. I would make an appointment with his PCM too, to get a referral for a psych eval which will then allow him to get a full evaluation through Tricare so that you can get things approved through Tricare too. EFM: It really depends on what his diagnosis is. Autism, when they are young, should be Cat5, which means you guys will stay in a central area that has the proper faciliites (I believe it's Bangor, San Diego, Norfolk and one more... maybe Japan??). That way Jacob can continue on with his therapies and not have to **** with waitlists and all that again. What are his struggles? I can explain some techniques to do at home to help him in the interim. |

We had the Bellevue, Ne Public School District Specialists come and evaluate him at the CDC. Well actually first I took him to one of the elementary schools where they do the initial testing to see IF he needs help.
Then they and I decided that additional help and testing would be a good idea. So they sent out the Speech Pathologist to evaluate Jacob Which he did fairly well at( he scored a 89% in interacting and giving words back). Then the School Psychologist spent several hours for a few days straight at the CDC watching him and interacting with him.( The Psych has a son who is Autistic so hes been around it for awhile). Anyways he is the one who called me a few days ago to give me a heads up on his diagnosis and that is why I wanted to get the ADOS testing done( did that today). All of the testing and evaluation was paid for by the school district. Have not had to use Tricare for anything yet. Tuesday he has an appt with his doc on base so they can evaluate him as well and fill out the EFM paperwork( just incase we need it). Then Thursday we meet with the team of specialists at the CDC and go over what he will be diagnosed with. Jacob does qualify for help thru the district wether he is diagnosed with Autism or not because he is so behind developmentally socially. So some people I talked to on base told me that the help im getting thru the district is the best in the area. Right now that is where we stand. Not sure about EFM yet or the Category because we have to send off all that paper work to a place in SD and they put him in a category. He will need educational help, no health issues( cept sleeping problems) that we know of. I honestly do not want to go back to SD. We were hoping Lemoore, ca. or staying here. But who knows. Thanks so much for your help and advice. Im sure I will be picking your brain alot now.
