EFMP versus no EFMP - Special Needs Children

As most of you know, Ethan has a speech delay. However, I do not have him enrolled in the EFMP. Should I?!? What benefits would the EFMP give Ethan, that he doesn't have already?!

He already has an IEP and is actually scheduled to have his annual re-evaluation on Monday.

I really do not think it'd do much now, but maybe in the long run? If you PCS elsewhere it'll make the transfer paperwork for his IEP easier. We use Killer's EFMP as his medical IEP currently. Granted, I have to get it updated, but those last for years!

Does the "civilian world" recognize EFMP or is EFMP just used amongst the military medical system?!

I always assumed, as long as he has an updated IEP, he's good to go.

EFMP is mainly a military thing. depending on his rating it can get you higher on the housing list, and sometimes give you priority for appointments. and what Jen listed about.. thats about it.

We use his EFMP @ his preschool, which is HeadStart (civilian) & he qualifies because of his disorder (not based on income). So yes, it will work in the "civilian world". His specialists told me that it is actually the most informative documents to use for schools.

Yeah E is in Head Start too. They just use his IEP to qualify, since we, too, exceed the income requirements.

I know when we PCS'ed here to Hawaii they made me automatically enroll in it because they screen for it whn going overseas. So if you ever PCS OCONUS they might automatically make you enroll him.

Yeah they made me enroll for anxiety and for me its not even that serious , Im not seeing a specialist or anything at the moment.

But if you were going overseas they would have to make sure they had the proper care or facilities to deal with it.
