We have an answer!
Oh Gosh, where to start....well:
I haven't posted hardly anything in here, because there's been so much going on that I figured I'd wait til we had an answer. We finally completed everything yesterday!! We had to go for two days to the cities, and Eian was tested throughout those two days, and the end of the second day *yesterday* was the family conference. It's been a long road, one which I thought I would be happy to see come to an end, but now we just hit a stop sign and there's a longer road in front of us. One in which I've never been down before, nor know how to even begin to start down. Eian is indeed Autistic (I've known since he was about 48hours old that he was alittle different, a mother knows), and as he grew there was more and more that I knew was different with him, but no one would listen and I was always told "He's a normal kid, blad blah blah." My mom, I wish she was a little more understanding....I'd like her to be there so I can talk about this and just have someone to vent to on the rougher days, but she's the one who from day one that has told me he's fine, he's normal, he's this and that....blah blah blah. I called her last night with his diagnosis and she didn't say a word. I kept talking and telling her that this doesn't change who Eian is at all, he's still and always will be Eian, he just learns a little different from the rest of the children. Still nothing from her There's so much calling and paperwork now to do for him for schooling, and therapy at home. They want him in speech therapy at school, along with OT at school and home *he does once a week OT right now*, and they've also suggested us getting him a PCA *personal care assistant* for at home because with the two other little ones around and Eian needed the attention he needs, and work he needs, they said it would benifical to him and us that he gets one. Gosh theres just so so much. They gave me some great websites, and book names *so I'm off to find them and purchase them*. I'm determined to learn as much as I can so I can understand my son better. That's what this whole journey was about: I want to be able to understan my son better, so things are easier for him (as much I can do, I'll do it). So that's that. I'm relieved to have an answer now, at the same time my head is spinning in circles in search of phone numbers, and papers. Thanks to you all for reading this. :.

You are an amazing mother for doing all this for your son. I truly admire your determination to really understand him. It probably won't be an easy road but your love and dedication will make it a better one for him and yourself.

I'm so glad you found a diagnosis! I used to work with special needs children before we moved with the military. They are all truly so amazing in there own ways.

I'm glad you finally have a diagnosis. It can be so frustrating when you know there's something wrong and can't get the help you need yet.
Have they talked to you about Applied Behavioral Analysis? It's intensive and not for every family, but it is one of the evidence based treatments for Autism. I work with special needs kids, a lot of whom have Autism. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions! |
