FINALLY!!!! PROGRESS!!!

After months of trying to get an appt for ODS (to have him evaluated, not for ADD but some sort of learning disability or delay), it's finally happening. I've been trying to do this since the beginning of the year, but ODS's teacher lost her paperwork and I had to get a new set, and then mine disappeared in the mail and I had to resubmit it all...but He's finally being seen!!!!

And I that the school schedules his testing date soon. We're pretty sure there is some sort of Learning Disability but we can't figure out what specifically it is. Finally after 2 1/2 LONG years, we have convinced them that this needs to be done. He's sooooooooooooo far behind it's terrible. At this point, he's still trying to get the basics figured out and the class has moved on to harder concepts (specifically math) and he's had the "snowball effect" going on. Poor guy!

I'm so relieved...it's finally happening!!!!!!! Hopefully we'll know something soon!!!!

March 31st is our appt with the Doc and after that appt, we have a parent teacher conference with his teacher the same day.

that we figure it all out before he moves on to 3rd grade and gets lost even further!

It's been a roller coaster with him. He did Kindergarden, but I didn't think he was ready to move up to 1st grade. Then in 1st grade we brought up retention because he was so far behind, and the school wasn't too keen on the idea, but since we were going to be moving and he would be at a new school, they thought that was the time to do it (self esteem type issues was their concern). We kept him back in 1st grade, but right off the bat, his teacher noticed he was so far behind and he shouldn't be because he had already done all of this work the year before. Well, in CA you can't be held back more than once in elementary school (legally it's just not allowed) so he had to be bumped up to 2nd grade. His teacher is friends with his 1st grade teacher so she knew what to expect with him, and actually, I've had lots of talks with his current teacher and last years teacher as well. But, we're finally where we need to be as far as testing goes we find out something soon.

Thx! Me too! I've been calling and leaving messages to see if they got my paperwork...again and again, but never heard back. I was going to call today but they got to me sooner.

oh thats great news. I hope he doesnt get to far behind either. If they were worried about self esteem issues by keeping him behind and they pushed him to the next grade, I would think if he is really struggling grade wise and work wise that that would do more damage to his self esteem. I hope they can figure out whats going on so he can get the help he needs.
