Spot on babies heart?
Hi ladies. I am 24 weeks pregnant, with our 4th child. My OB has had me have an extensive ultrasound when pregnant because my sister was born with ASD (a whole in her heart). I had my ultrasound last week and everything looked normal, except a bright white spot on his heart. The dr said this can be a sign of down syndrome, but that I was too far along to do the blood work to further test. She said at this time there is no further testing they can do (other than that amnio test which we aren't doing because the risk of miscarriage). This was just the doctor at the ultrasound and not my OB, so I will be talking to her about it at my next appointment. I'm just wondering from some of you if this is something I should be pretty concerned about, or not. Of course it isn't going to change anything if he does have it. I just would like to be able to research and try to prepare myself and my family as much as possible. I guess what I'm wondering is if any of you were told this, and if there is any other testing they can do later in the pregnancy, more extensive ultrasounds or anything.
Thanks in advance for any advice and I hope I worded it right so everyone understands me. It's been a long day and I'm exhausted, so I apologize if it's hard to understand. |

When I was pregnant with my DD, they saw two spots. One on the liver and heart and I was about 20 wks. I took the down syndrome test because I wanted to know in advance so that I could prepare myself if it was true. I called everyday for the results cause I was so nervous. Luckily everything was ok, they said it must have been a shadow. I know it is scary and the bestthing for me was reading on it. To try to prepare myself fo anything. I did the test with the needle being inserted in the amniotic fluid and that was how they tested(sorry I think it's called an amnio). Can they test that way for you? I know waiting is the hardest part.

The false positives are the reason I always deny it. With all 5 kids I never got it and I probably won't this time either. OP, I think amnio is the way to go for a 100% answer.
