Its official
Robbie definitely has ADHD which was no surprise and then there was the possibility of him having aspergers and she said its probably more on the severe side and that there seems to be a little bit of OCD and some ODD and then the sensory issues too. So now we know for sure what he has. Its going to be a tough road but I know that in time things will improve.
I do have one question though. For the EFMP do they need to have a certain category for the paperwork like does he have a mild, moderate or severe case? I am happy that we have a final answer though. I just wish that the psychologist in texas we went to could have figured this out cause then we would have already been on the road to helping him. Thank goodness we are in better caring hands now. |

So he does have Aspergers then? Or he doesn't?
With EFM, he just needs a diagnosis, doesn't matter if it's "severe" or not. Riley got on EFM with just a "provisional" diagnosis (which means they didn't have enough info/he was too young to give him a formal diagnosis). |

no he definitely has it. I just need her to type us up an official form so I can give it to his school for the child study and for the EFM paperwork too.

oh my DH and I are going to be seeing the family therapist alone to learn how to discipline him and to determine what is his disorder and when he is being a typical child kinda thing. We just need to learn to reparent him and give him more boundaries. Believe me we are going to be armed and educated. LOL

Yeah there is a lot of changes to be made once you find out it's autism. But the good news is that with a lot of education and a lot of patience, things can become much better for him and you guys too. Counseling is a great idea, Ryan and I did it, because men and women grieve during this process, and in very different ways.
Here are some great things that helped me a lot.. 100 Day kit... tells you the 1st things to do when you get a diagnosis. http://www.autismspeaks.org/communit...00_day_kit.php EFMP Status. Once you get his paperwork, you can use this to check his status. Autism will be a Cat 5 meaning you can stay at a home base so he can get continued services. https://qol.persnet.navy.mil/EFM/Main1.asp Online support groups like SOS, but for autism: http://dailystrength.org/ (Search for autism or aspergers) http://www.autismspeaks.org/community/forums/index.php Good book, great method (floortime) http://product.half.ebay.com/Engagin...87167QQtgZinfo Great book on understanding each individual facet of autism... http://product.half.ebay.com/Overcom...91949QQtgZinfo Also, if he is having behavioral issues, which I think I remember you saying he did, then you might want to do some research on a gluten-casein free diet. It can work miracles in children with autism, especially with an ADHD/ADD diagnosis as well. Literally like night and day, and it's crucial to do it when they are young and habits aren't quite formed yet. Good luck Cat, everything will be just fine! |
