AMC now offers films for special needs children monthly across the country!
Here is the copy from our local Down syndrome society website telling about it: AMC Entertainment (AMC) and ASA have teamed up to begin testing a pilot program to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis. "Sensory Friendly Films" premiered across the country last August, and are continuing with a special showing of the new film Bolt for December. For these movies the lights are up a little, the sound is down, there is no "silence is golden" rule, and people can bring in special dietary snacks. and here's sensory friendly films link http://www.autism-society.org/site/P...e=sensoryfilms it's through the autism society, but a lot of children with all types of special needs have sensory problems and it is open to all of them. Just thought I'd share

Awesome.
If you're interested, fatbraintoys.com has a whole section of toys for children with special needs. You can pick the developmental goal, the sensory activity (sight, sound, or touch) and I think there are several different categories of disorders that you can choose from, and it will sort the appropriate toys for you. I thought it was pretty cool.

oh wow that is awesome news. My DS has some auditory sensory issues and cant stand really loud noise because the one time we took him to a movie theater to see Wall E he covered his ears because it was so loud. Thats the only problem he has. He doesnt mind the lights being off though. I just hope they will be doing this in VA too.
