EDIS and moving...

My twin daughters are in the EDIS program. As I understand it, the EDIS program is only offered to military housing. We are moving to Lejuene here in a few months and there is an 8 month waiting list. I don't want my children to be out of therapy that long. It is the weekend so I cannot call the program. But my question is since my children need to be in the EDIS program, is there a way I could get a house immediantly on base?? Has anyone done this, or am I just hoping for something that just doesn't exist.

What does EDIS stand for? I have never heard of it.

Hope this helps you. I know in some places, if you live off base, the countys have similar programs set up to help kids. Have a look into that too.

That would be why I didnt know about it. Gabe didnt show needing help till he was in kinder and Chris was over 3.

Thanks ya'll. That is disapointing though, because the girls will have one therapist for a few months and then a new one when we move onto base housing. Now my thought is..how does that help?? It is like switching doctors...The people we have worked with know the girls like the back of their hand....I wonder if I could get a letter and maybe that would move us in quicker so we can get the girls used to the new therapist. I guess I will have to suck it up!! Thanks for the great info ya'll

What about going EFMP?? I don't know if that would help, but it's through the hospital so you can maybe get ongoing care until you're in housing.

On the link that was given, it said that if you would be moving into housing within 90 days and had a note from them that you qualified.

for housing it is based on the EMFP level you are on- if you are not enrolled they will most likely need you to do that before they will bump you on the housing list.

We are on EFMP and had EDIS as well in Okinawa. EDIS is all done on base and works mainly with the developmental side of things where EFMP is more the medical and a lot of the specialists are offbase. One of our specialists is 1 hr away. We are also having trouble getting into speech with EFMP, where as through EDIS we had no problems at all. I think if there is no medical specialists required EDIS is better. EDIS also works with the schools.

The girls are in the EDIS program. They also see a speech thereapist. But they are in EDIS right now. The waiting list for housing is 6-8 months. Do you think if I got a letter just for EDIS they would bump me up???
