My DD's Dr told me that they can't really get a positive diagnosis until the first grade, altho' we already knew she had it. I think 4 is a bit young to tell (IMO) . Most little ones are all over the place anyways at that age.

it is getting easier and easier to test at younger ages-
it is not unusual to diagnose in pre -k- now here is the most important thing-- just becasue he is diagnosed does not mean you have to medicate- you do not- there are ways to teack even a 4 yr old how to live with this disability- DS was diagnosed at 7- he was never ever medicated and we learned how to parent an ADD child- he graduated high school with honors- graduated boot camp- graduated from A school and C- school top of those classes- spent 8 yrs testing and fixing jet engines and now is a full time student with honors and on the deans list- he Still has ADD- and works very hard to use the tools he has learned to stay focused and stay on task. But he did it all with out a single pill.

Sorry, gunsgirl... not everyone can do it without meds and I'm a very good parent to an ADHD child.

Dream as if you'll live forever; live as if you'll die today

I knew from birth. No seriously, I did. He was the newborn that thought sleep was highly overrated. Always very alert and excessively active. I just knew. We didn't take him for an eval/diagnosis until the start of 2nd grade. I always told myself that I would address the situation more formally if the ADHD interfered with his success. Well, when he got kicked out of summer camp, that was my sign. I didn't even know they would kick a kid out of summer camp, for crying out loud!
