Autism Anyone?

Any other moms with children diagnosed with Autism or ASD-PDD? How old are they, and what kind of therapies are you doing now?

Our second son, Chris, is ASD-PDD - speech delays, mostly social issues. We're just NOW getting therapies started and working on an IEP for pre-K (he'll be 5 in Dec). He's at home with me now full time, but hopefully will start school soon!

I have a 2.5 year old who has a provisionary diagnosis of PDD-NOS. Mostly behavioral and sensory issues at this point.

Yes, our DS, Tristan, is 5 and he was diagnosed when he was 3. He is PDD-NOS for now. One of his DDs has been leaning toward Aspergers, but we won't be able to get that diagnosed until he is a little bit older, and I'm not totally convinced it is Aspergers.
Tristan has been in preschool for 2 years. He is starting a collaborative Kindergarten class this year. Social cues and behavioral/sleeping issues are our biggest challenges. He used to go to speech therapy twice a week, but has graduated out of it. Now he just attends school and has developmental appts bi-annually.
I have tried to get TriCare to cover ABA, but they have denied it, so I will try again at our next DD appt.
Tristan also takes probiotics and fish oil. We have noticed a difference in his behavior and concentration with it. Also, if we are noticing that he is having a particularly rough night going to bed, we give him Melatonin.

Laney, did you try to get the ABA under the echo option for EFMP?

sean was diagnosed with pdd-nos at 3.5 years of age.

basically speech, social and some motor skill issues........

he started special needs preschool at 4 with an IEP and honestly in one year time frame the majority of his speech issues have disappeared. He needs some social prompting still and has some issues with motor skills, but that will come.

Sean does therapeautic horseback riding here.........we enjoy it. I'm currently in that phase where i'd like him to be reevaluated soon to see where he stands........

Noah was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome/PDD-NOS 2 1/2 years ago.

I don't have any kids with it but I do believe my newphew who is 3 might have Aspergers syndrome. I've looked into it with my parents and they agree but havent figured out how to bring it up to my sister yet. He is a great kid but there is something missing and the only thing everyone who knows him can come up with is this. How did you guys notice it? How did you ask for tests to be done?

No, but I will look into it now. I just went to his regular ped and asked for a referral. TriCare sent me a denial letter. I wasn't a happy camper. Thanks for mentioning it!
