RESOURCES FOR SPECIAL NEEDS PARENTS (WEBSITES, BOOKS, EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, ETC.)
Here is a list of suggested websites, books to read, educational books/toys, etc. Please only list sites that you have used, been suggested by a doctor or specialist, or official site. There is so much information out there, I want to try to keep this list as official as possible. Thanks!!!
Websites; Autism non-profit:www.autismspeaks.org Accurate information about autism: http://www.med.yale.edu/chldstdy/autism/ http://www.talkaboutcuringautism.org/index.htm First Signs of Autism: http://www.firstsigns.org/ Forums: http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/default.asp http://dailystrength.org/c/Autism-Au...rum/support-gr Autism speaks forum: http://autismspeaksnetwork.ning.com/ Books (for parents to read/educate themselves); Overcoming Autism--Finding the Answers, Strategies, and Hope That Can Transform a Child's Life, by Lynn Kern Koegel and Claire LaZebnik. ISBN 014303468-5 Suggested by Trey: I just finished this book and it's an excellent resource. The chapters are broken down by symptoms, so you can utilize the chapters you need. She has some excellent ideas on ways to help these children, and I would definitely suggest it, especially if you are on a waitlist for services.
