Techniques: Social-Stories: Short, brief first-person narratives written to teach your child how to behave in certain situations and how to deal with emotions and problems that might take place at home, school, in the middle of the night, in the car, etc (mainly for Autism-spectrum but can be applied to a lot of children with a variety of disorders and even regular children)
Diet: (Autism-spectrum) some children are sensitive to casein (protein found in cheese and milk) ... limiting this sometimes can help with behavioral and focus issues. Supplements: Melatonin for sleep - talk to your Dr, of course, I finally found some in the herbal/viatamin section at Walmart. |

Therapies: Tristan has speech therapy for an hour twice a week. He sees his DD every six months.
Diet: We have tried Gluten Free/Casein Free (GF/CF) a couple of times, but we are giving it another go. We do see results and we need to stick with it a little longer than previously. Supplements: T takes Melatonin for sleep, anywhere from 1 to 5 mgs. We get those from GNC. He takes Fish Oil. We get those and a GF/CF chewy multi from Costco. He also takes a probiotic called Threelac. We notice a huge difference in a matter of days if he does not take that. |

My son was diagnosed with Autism when he was 3yo.......
Social Stories have been extremely helpful with my son. They would use them with him when he was in preschool! They were helpful when we were trying to intro duce him to new social situations!!! Diet- My son used to crave milk when he was 3yo. He would have up to 14 glasses of milk a day. I read some information online about the GF/CF diet and I decided to take him off of regular milk and change him to Rice milk. I did this gradually so he wouldn't get upset. It made a HUGE difference with my son. He stopped banging his head and being so violent. He is now six and still drinks rice milk everyday. I tried to keep up with the rest of the diet but it can be very expensive to find GF/CF products. So I try to watch the amount that he has. My son also had cranial sacral therapy. It was really helpful with his eye contact and sensory needs. My doctor wrote us a script so our insurance would cover it and he did that for a year and a half. I have a really great book that describes natural therapy's for autism if any is interested!!!

Occupational therapy:
Face tapping http://www.handle.org/activity/facetap.html (also aids in correctly aligning the right and left hemispheres of the brain) Pressure Brushing http://www.sensory-processing-disord...can-do-it.html Body massage (with a small personal battery operated massager)(to help desensitize children that have extremely sensitive skin/bodies, used for the same reasons as pressure brushing) http://www.sensory-processing-disord...y-for-spd.html Drinking 2 oz of water a day through a crazy straw (works in the same way as face tapping does some what) Using a stability (yoga) ball (the big ones) to work on low tone
