Parents of kiddos with speech delays... - Special Needs Children

I have an odd question, but did you child have the cord wrapped around his neck or any complications with the cord during pregnancy?

Well, you know that T doesn't only have speech delays, but he was taken with forceps and they tore a muscle in his neck.

No Jacob did not have any cord issues.

Caleb has speech issues and nope, he had no complications at all.

My ds had speech delays and is still in speech therapy 1X a week in first grade. He had the cord wrapped around his neck twice and it had a knot in it.

Hmmm... interesting. Ryan and I went to a parenting group down here for parents of children with speech delays, and the coordinator didn't say anything about it, but when we talked around the room, 6 of the 8 children there had cord issues. I was just trying to see if it was coincidence or not.

Yes! Ethan had to breathe in oxygen for like 3 minutes or so prior to me getting to hold him.

That would be one interesting study!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, Bruce never had issues with his cord but the dr's had to use suction to help get him out since he was faced wrong and stuck under my pelvic bone.

I don't think that would effect his speech though.

Same with Tooters... they whisked him away for about 10 minutes right afterwards...they used forceps on him too. I think it would be a really interesting study to conduct!!!

Even if it's only accurate in 50% of the cases, it's something they could talk to the parents about, so that they could be proactive in working on speech from a very young age and know what to look out for! A preventive measure.
