    Camp Pendleton

So, we have orders for Pendleton for July.

    I'm nervous.
We've been stationed in CA before but it was 29 Palms.

We kinda-sorta know the area, my in-laws are in San Juan Capistrano, and we've visited 3 times, but that's SO different from living somewhere.
And I do know 2 old friends from a previous duty station are there (yay).

We put in our housing request for either San Onofre or Wire Mountain 3, to be near his work.

    We have 4 kids - ages 8, 7, 5, and 2.5. No pets.
    We're coming from Hawaii.

So what do we need to know?
Anything super good or super bad about the base, those 2 housing areas, the schools, crime, cost of living, nearby towns, etc ?????

    Thanks

When I lived in SD I had a friend come over from HI and she said that it was hard getting use to not having the COLA. Things were cheaper in SD just more than they expected. Good luck to you.

    YEA PENDLETON is WAY, WAY, BETTER THEN 29 STUMPS . . . . .
(I dislike 29 palms and yucca valley with a passion ). . . . there is more to do at pedleton and there is stuff to do in oceanside, vista, carlsbad,SD(surrounding cities) , i'm sure you will like it

Yep a friend told me that too, especially gas, and it's actually more expensive in CA than it is in HI right now.

    Thanks.

You will really like it- DH was there for 6 years and I grew up not far from the base. There is a lot to do (north in OC and south in SD)!

My brother and my SIL told me 29 Stumps WAS Hell!
I've only toured the base on Pendleton briefly, but it is HUGE! I loved driving through there. If my dh were in the Marines I would be happy living there.
