So you apply online for jobs (indeed.com), ask for phone interviews first, then set up multiple interviews in one week with those wanting face to face. Rent one of those weekly hotels, interview and look for places to live in that week. If you have to live in one of those hotels when you first move, so be it! I lived in one for a month when I moved to KY and found an apartment!

san diego is a wonderful place

but to start out, you can look at north, east or south county. Things are a little cheaper there.

I love living here (for the most part), but I admit I don't know how I would have made it if DH wasn't in the military! (But I also have two kids, so that adds a ton of other expenses and things to consider.. can't just rent a room somewhere, for example.)

Not to San Diego, but I have done that on a couple occasions. Not while married. I just packed my stuff and moved. The only thing I had going for me, was a room to stay in for a short time. But SD is so much more expensive than any place I ever went so I would need at least prospects of jobs or a place I could stay for a longer time.

It totally can be done, if you really want it.
