I've been here since April of this year and my hubby will still be deployed around the time you get here still.

I'm only 21 though and my daughter is almost 3.

The price of living sucks! Besides that it's all personal preference if you like it or not.

Do you want to look for your own place to live? Or are y'all wanting to live in base housing?

We chose to live out of base housing because with a daughter we could NOT afford for them to take DH's full BAH. Also, most of the housing lists are a mile long and may or may not have openings for when you come.

    Up to y'all though.

If you want a nicer more Homie filling area look around Lakeside. It's a little more of a drive(only about 20-minutes depending on traffic to North Island), but a lot of people on my husbands ship he knows live in Lakeside. It's cheaper and a nicer area then the main San Diego area.

We live in central San Diego and at the moment we are paying 1725 for a not o great town home in a not so great area.

I am 39 with two boys down here in San Diego. I am down in the southbay though so it's not that close to any of the housing except Paradise Hills which in National City... It's not too far from North Island but not the greatest area. There are the Silver Strand (I and II) housing that is closer to North island and has water views. Depends on your dh's rank but it's enlisted, however due to it's location it has a really long waiting list.

    That's good.

Lots of people like the Murphy Canyon area for housing. It's only about a 20 minutes away from base on North Island. There is also schools, a YMCA fr military family, pools, parks, and even a little store down by the gas station. It's close enough to medical areas also where it's not a far drive to get to most doctors that except Tri-care.

Then other things down close by just up the street from that area are Wal-Mart, Taco Bell, Micky D's, Game Stop, A massage Envy, Game Stop, a Nail salon, a petsMart, A dollar store, and a Fry's Electronics.

Here a site to look at information.
