    I have a BAH question...

    Advertisements
so, if my husband goes IA but we are still stationed here in San Diego, but, I go home and live with my mom for the time he is gone. Will we get San Diego BAH or will we get the BAH based out of where my mom lives?

I believe we'll still get San Diego BAH, but, just wondering.

your BAH would change to where ever you go - since he is doing IA this is how they do it for that. this is one of those exceptions to the BAH rules.

Hmm. I'll have to check in with my cousin, her husband went IA as well and she went to MI and still go San Diego BAH.

it is possible to keep the BAH for the old Duty station- however this usually entials a move that is personally funded.

in most cases if you get PCS orders to move while on IA they BAH will change to your location.

maybe your cousin did this so they could keep the higher BAH.

if you need the rules I can post them for you or you can find them in the JFTR.

here is the guideline for your situation:
    b. If the dependent of a member, assigned to an unaccompanied tour, moves to a designated place, the
member is authorized BAH/OHA based on the dependent’s location. Payment based on the old PDS is
    not authorized

I wasn't aware that they could make me move from where I'm at? Hmm. This whole thing confuses me.

I didn't know that they would even pay for our stuff to be moved. I thought that that would come out of pocket.

My husband is currently doing an IA tour. We still get SD bah even though I moved home. We had to pay for the move ourselves. However if we would have additional orders after the IA tour the navy would have moved us to our new duty station, while my husband is deployed. Hope that made sense.

Is he getting new orders? Or is his PCS still on the Makin Island, but being pulled for IA (like TAD orders). I believe that when a sailor is pulled from their ship for an IA tour, but will be returning to said ship following IA tour they get BAH for their permanent duty station (ship homeport).

Yes. They still receive BAH for their permanent duty station ,unless they receive a new set of orders. My husbands tour is considered GSA. We are currently waiting for the detailer to cut us orders for after this deployment. The navy will pay for our move to a new duty station. However we would like to stay in SD.
