Jax, FL......finally here and settling in.
Hey! It has been awhile since I last posted, but we are now living in Florida.....we made the long cross country drive and while it wasn't horrible there were stretches of it that I wouldn't ever ever want to repeat again if possible (yes you west texas)......
I'll fill everyone in..... We flew out of Hawaii mid August.....landed in LA and drove to Phoenix immediately. That was probably an iffy idea, but we just wanted to get a move on. When we got into Phoenix we collapsed on our beds and slept.....Then we went through Texas stopping in El Paso (never again) and San Antonio (would have been a nice place to check out if we didn't need to get to FL and have our dog)....then we stayed in some tiny town in Louisiana, then hit NAS Pensacola and finally got the keys to our house and moved in two days later. It wasn't a horrible drive......my oldest locked the keys in our explorer WHILE it was running, but it wasn't horrible....we had people who were willing to help us out quickly. The dog slept the entire ride....... When we got to Florida we just picked up our keys and moved in two days later......all our household goods made it here in perfect condition.....no scratches nothing!!! I was shocked!! We're settling in nicely.....I love our neighborhood. I love the kid's schools and have already flown up to visit my family. I don't like the base......it's so busy and the commissary on NAS Jax? It is so small....just small.......sigh.....oh well. But the husband just went back to work last week after taking a month off.....and we're finally settling back into routines and I'm checking out doctors/dentists and hairstylists in the area!! I'll be posting a bit more now!

i'm so glad your move went well!! oh man, the keys locked in the car sounds like it could have been a nightmare, how awesome people were able to help you out so fast. welcome back to the sunshine state! i'm glad you're getting settled in and back in the groove. holler at me anytime if you're trying to find anything around town. i jax so much.i've only been to NAS jax once, for an airshow so idk much about the commissary, the one in mayport was pretty big IMO though. the drive sucks... but for once in blue moon it may good? ![]() i had an awesome fast/cheap hairstylist in ponte vedra if you want her name and number. i've never had someone do hair so quick (full color, cut, blow dry, style in under and hour and usually around $80-100 for all of that!). if you take 210 its actually a quicker drive than you'd think. you're really close to the new whole foods on san jose. its huge and amazing, i loooove shopping there. have you been yet? restaurants: if you're ever curious about a special or local place, shoot me a PM. i have my fav's for seafood, fancy food, mexican, and i know where the BEST fried chicken ever is (Beach Road Chicken Dinner ). near you- there is a La Napolera in orange park (locally owned and operated chain of mexican restaurants throughout jax, its the best!) just typing this makes me crave their shrimp quesadilla. i keep trying to think of what's "new" since you were here before living in hawaii... the st john's towne center = the new mall. its on the southside (you could take 295 to 9A, probably 20ish minutes away), awesome shopping. it has some high end stores, all your regular mall stores, and high end chain restaurants (cheesecake factory, maggiano's, p.f. changs, etc). you mentioned Dr's, so i'll add that the new baptist south hospital is close-ish to y'all too, and i really think its the nicest in jax (its been there a few years, but "new" to y'all since last time you were in jax). the ER there is really quick, and not nearly as overcrowded like some of the bigger/older hospitals (downtown baptist, st luke's, shands). if you need a specialist for any reason, let me know too and i may be able to give you some insight, for ex: i think the best GI clinic ever is in Jax with offices all over town, Borland-Groover clinic. (i am so random, sorry!). anyways, so glad you're in town and doing well... and that you'll be posting more now

Trust me, San Antonio is a lot dirtier than El Paso... Most tourists just don't realize it. Having lived in both places, I would definitely live in El Paso again, but I would never want to live in San Antonio unless it was for only a year or two while my husband does school.
Glad you finally made it to Florida! |

Hey I am in Jacksonville Fl and my boyfriend is stationed here. Kind of new to the military girlfriend thing. He is leaving for a deployment in jan and I don't know what to do without him. I would like someone to talk to that is in the same situation as me. It's hard meeting other females that have spouses or sig others in the military around here. Most of my friends don't like military men so i can't talk to thme about my sit. I am in college right now and while my boyfriend is gone fro deployment i am not going to have anybody to hang out with or talk to. Any support from this website would be grateful.

Welcome to Florida!!! I am in Jax also. I am also new to this site. My boyfriend is in the navy and stationed at mayport. I am kind of wanting to meet some people that are in the same situation i am. My other female friends the 3 that i have don't have boyfriends that are in the military. So it's kind of hard to get advice from them because they don't know anything about the military. I know a little bit but not all. My BF is getting to deploy in jan and i don't know how to prepare or deal with him being gone. I know i will miss him like freakin crazy!!!
