Virginia Beach?
We are considering a move to Virginia Beach in the near future and I have a few questions...what is the closest big city? How long would the commute be to D.C.? What is the beach like...is it like a San Diego beach with waves? Pictures would be great if you have them. Thanks!

yeah, if youre looking for waves, dont come to virginia. haha. unless theres a hurricane, VB has NO waves.
some of the beaches are okay. but down at the oceanfront is just crowded and pretty dirty. and its not somewhere i want to be at night time. so i find some of the local beaches hidden in backs of neighborhoods and stuff usually takes me about 4hours to get to DC, depending on traffic. |

virginia beach is part of hampton roads. basically they are all close together so you could live/work in any of them and still have a decent commute depending on traffic. there's VB, chesapeake, norfolk and portsmouth that make up the southside. you can go to the peninsula which is mostly hampton, newport news, and yorktown but commuting through the tunnels can be horrendous.
I don't think the oceanfront is dirty. crowded yes but not dirty. it's really commercialized, hotels, shopping, resteraunts, etc. they do a lot of big events down there on the beach. |

I agree with Crystal. But I also spend ALOT of time at the oceanfront at night and it's not bad. It's very open, still lighted pretty well and only a few drunken characters every once in awhile. It's still quite peaceful.
