I'm at Fort Jackson which is pretty close (it's in Columbia) about 30-45 minutes from Shaw. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!

I'm at Shaw....GET OUT OF THIS BASE ASAP!...I really don't like this place my husband is with the 77th and works about 12 + hours everyday and then phones calls constantly at night. His group of friend do nothing but complain about how badly they are mismanaged.

OK about the community...this place blows! This is how I feel after a trip to Walmart

.Get out of town as much as possible go to Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, anywhere else as much as possible. If you have never lived off base don't start here. If you have a motorcycle do not I repeat DO NOT leave it sitting anywhere for very long it will be stolen and quick.

Places to eat: Johnny Rockets in Myrtle Beach gives like a 50% military discount, Seasons in Sumter, Homney Grill in Charleston, ANGELS!!!!!! of Sumter and you have to eat a Sweet Fried Burito!

Where to go: Charleston you have to go to the market place in down town, James Island has beautiful Christmas lights every year starting in November, Myrtle Beach you can go to Ripleys Aquarium for 75% off, there is like 3 minor league base ball teams and lots of football, as for in Sumter for what to do Swan Lake...that's it and trust me its pretty but it gets old super quick...

I know your prob disappointed to hear most of this but if there is anything else you want to know ask I will do my best...
