Jax?

Do you like Jacksonville? What is there to do? how is the cost of living? We are looking at a few different places and this came up. Any info would be great.

depends on what part of jax u live. living price can be not expensive to expensive. we live about 10 mins from mayport and iw ould not change that for anything. so i love jax. im 10 mins from the beach and 5 mins from major stores and so forth. plus jax is growing more each day . hope that helped u some

It's not too bad...Which base are you looking at, NAS or Mayport? The cost of living is a bit high. If you want to live anywhere where you're not worrying about having your car/house being broken into, you'll need to shell a little bit of money out, mainly if you plan to buy. We're renting a house about 10 min from NAS in an area called Murray Hill for $1000 a month. It's a 3br 2ba and the neighborhood is quiet and growing in popularity.

I loved it there! We'd bring the kids to Kid Kampus, which is a park that has water squirting up from the slides and things.

Metropolitan Park has concerts sometimes, I don't know how often. I brought my niece to a concert there. It was put on by the radio station. We rained so hard, and we got soaked, but we had a blast.

There's a cool hands-on museum for kids somewhere near Atlantic Blvd. My daughter's class had a field trip there. The kids loved it.

I loved going dancing at Bourbon Street Station, but I wouldn't go very often because I lived on NAS Jax and that club was like 45 mins away.

I also like Harmonious Monks. It's a restaurant/bar in Mandarin. The servers sing. We had a g2g there when I was on NWW. A few of us got up and did the hand motions to Pink Cadillac. It was so fun.

There's Rails to Trails (I may have the wrong name), which is a long bike trail. I've never been though.

I love St Augustine too. There is a Ripley's there. It's just a cute place to visit. There are also outlets in St Augustine.

I made a habit of checking the paper website for upcoming events. Enjoy!

Oh, and I loved the fireworks display on the 4th. We went to an all day concert at Metro Park and watched the fireworks from there. They were on a barge. It was great.

cost of living in Jax is way way way low compared to most places you will ever be stationed. You can rent a NICE NICE 4 bedroom 3 bath or at least 2 1/2 bath for 1300-1400 a month. A three bedroom is even cheaper. Apartments are really fairly prices compared to most places I've looked. Jax is probably one of the only duty stations we could afford to buy a house that is up to our standards.

You know how I feel about it. If I ever come back here, it will be to soon. Anywhere is better than here. The crime rate is OUTRAGEOUS. We are #1 in FL for murders this year... that includes MIAMI! Car jackings and car theft is on a MAJOR hike. I hear it all the time. Unforunately its mostly the military guys that are getting their cars stolen. The base is so freakin dirty... NAS is anyways. There so many better places than here.

I'm OG from socal and I LOVE it here...crime here is NADA compared to socal so...I could do without the humidty and rain everyday in the summer...otherwise we love it here...

I am going to Jax soon myself and have no information on the city at all. I have no idea where to begin.

I love love love living here in Jacksonville. We moved here when I was a kid, so this is basically where I've been raised.
