    Keesler AFB

I need to hear something good about this place. I found out today that's where I'll be for 9 months for my phase 2 training. I can't stop crying because I really wanted Luke in AZ because I would have only been about 2 hours from where my bf is stationed.

What is there to do for a single, no-dependents military member? I'm really not a fan of beaches. Or humidity. What's the base like? Also, if anyone knows what the training is more or less like... I'm medical laboratory and it'll be on-the-job training. Someone told me they get Fridays off. True or no?

Found out today from my instructor that the Fridays off happen every other Friday. And that it's 10 hour days instead of 8 hour days to make up for that.

I'm doing all the research I can. But would still love to hear from people that have been there. Also if anyone's SO have been there for tech school... that'd be helpful.

I'm sorry you didn't get a base closer to your bf. I don't have any answers for your questions but... I'm anxiously awaiting an update on your blog whenever you get the chance.

My husband was stationed at Keesler, and we lived there for 8 months. I personally didn't like it, but I'm not really a fan of the south. I didn't feel as though there was a lot to do. We had moved from Phoenix, AZ (which I loved) and it is very small compared to that area.

Biloxi is tiny, but it's kind of combined with other towns/cities such as Gulfport and D'Iberville. Oceans Springs is across the bridge too. There are lots of casinos in Biloxi itself which have some decent clubs/bars (if you are into that scene) and some nice buffets. It's ok shopping wise. There is a mall in Biloxi, and several strip malls in D'Iberville and Gulfport. I used to travel to Mobile, AL, and Slidell, LA to shop too. New Orleans is only 1 1/2 hours away and there is a lot to do there. Baton Rouge is about 2 hours. Mobile, AL is around 1 hour. Pensecola, FL isn't that far either - about 2 1/2 hours.

My husband was there for tech school and we lived on base. He went through officer tech school so I know it can be different (and he had a family). He did get every other Friday off, which he misses!

Keesler has a huge hospital, which is where I assume you'll be at. I had a really pleasant experience there when I gave birth to my son. It seems much more organized than the hospital we have access to here in Germany (Landstuhl).

That's all I can think of for now. Any questions then please ask We moved from there in March 2013.

I was at Keesler for tech school. I don't really have anything bad to say about it since I was only there about 3 months. We did take a trip to New Orleans once that was pretty cool.

I would keep an open mind about the base. My first base was Offutt and I was dreading it because I did not want to live in Nebraska. I spent 4 years there and I realize now that I would have enjoyed it so much more if I had gone without planning to hate it.

My husband is at tech school there right now. I don't know if I caught this thread too late, but I figured I would respond just incase. He seems to be enjoying it quite a bit, but 1) he won't be spending 9 months there like you and 2) he will be out of there before summer hits. Let me know if you would still like insight
