Smile Is there a good middle spot between Ft Hood and Austin?

I'm a little worried about the drop in income I'm going to face in Texas-cost of living may go down, but my bills aren't! I'd like to stay in the medical field (I'm a medical biller/accounts receivable specialist), and I know Scott & White has a billing office in Temple, but I'm wondering if I will need to widen my search to Austin if I'd like to be paid better. Does anyone make the commute to Austin? If so, where do you live, and how do you like it?

I grew up in Georgetown, born and raised that's pretty much the best middle spot you would be able to find. It's about 37 miles from Killeen/Fort Hood and about 25-35 miles from Austin depending on which part of Austin you're going too.

However, cost of living is higher in Georgetown, it's going to be a lot harder to find a cheaper place with a lot of space. Georgetown has somewhat turned into a retirement community honestly, with Sun City right there on the outskirts, the town is extremely tame. But they also have an amazing school district since I know you have older kids, way better than that of Killeen.

My dad did the commute my entire life (still does just from Liberty Hill now which actually may be a good town for you to look into as well!) and it wasn't bad, the drive isn't terrible depending on which way you're coming from and they're working on 195 which is the main road that feeds into Georgetown/I35 to Austin from Killeen.

Just to ETA too, anything medical is pretty much wide open in Texas from what I've seen, they have positions open all the time. It's a good field to be in here in Texas. Plus, Fort Hood is building a HUGE new hospital as well idk when it's due to open but they'll probably need more staff. Keep an eye out on USAjobs.gov for postings in your field. But as for Georgetown, most of the hospitals in the Austin area are Seton, Scott & White or St. John's I believe.

Awesome, that's what I need to know.....I remembered you mentioning Georgetown as your hometown, but I'm still learning the geography of the area, so I wasn't clear about where exactly everything is.....we are really hoping to take a trip down there in September if we can scratch together the money. We live on the air force base, so maybe we could try for a space A flight too.....not sure.
