    Galveston TX?

    Advertisements
DH and I have been wanting to take a mini-vacay for a while but we never get around to it ...

Today he was saying we should go to Galveston since it's not that far and it's on the ocean. Has anyone been? What kinds of things did you do there?

It's wonderful! There is a schilitterbahn water park there! I don't know if you've ever been to the one that is in New Braunfels, but it's pretty awesome.

There's also moody gardens which is so neat!! You're also really close to Houston, so there is the space center (which is so cool, not just for kids ) and there's the Houston Zoo!

We used to go to Galveston almost every summer. I second Moody Gardens. I always liked taking the ferry ride too.

We always took a walk on The Strand and just went to the souvenir shops along the seawall. The Strand Galveston, Texas | TheStrand.com

The only Hotel I remember staying at is the Galvez and it was awesome.

Oh cool, we went to the one in New Braunfels right before DH deployed. I know he loves water parks/amusement parks.

Was the hotel that you stayed at near the beach? I know he was wanting somewhere where we could pretty much just walk from the hotel to the beach.

    Gahhh omg I love Galv!

I lived there for 4 years of undergrad. As PP's have suggested, Schlitterbahn, Moody Gardens, and the Strand are all great places. That Pleasure Pier just recently opened so I never got to go to it.

Here are a few of my favorites on the island:

    Restaurants;
    Willie G's- strand/piers
    Olympia Grill- strand/piers
Sunflower Cafe- for breakfast, omg its THE best. I never miss an opportunity to go there. on 21st (I think?)
    Salsa's Mexican- Seawall
The Spot/Drip (great food and bar)- on Seawall
Sky Bar- sushi- on Post Office
    Yamato- sushi- on 61st

    Activities:
You can rent those 2 or 4 person bikes to drive along the Seawall
    Schlitterbahn, Moody, and Pleasure Pier
    Duck Tours
    Galveston Island Ghost Tours
    Historic Houses- Ashton Villa

    Hotels near Seawall:
    Holiday Inn
    San Luis
    Hotel Galvez
    Hilton
Casa del Mar (parents stayed here, it was really nice)
Hampton Inn (parents have also stayed here)

Ahh I'm getting so excited just thinking about it!

Sure is. There is tons of other hotels that are right across from the beach too. We just went to Galveston a few weekends ago(we live less than an hr away) and the pleasure pier was just opening. Everyone has already suggested pretty much everything there is to do.

Oh yea also Kemah Boardwalk is about 25 minutes from Galveston, it's like the Pleasure Pier but bigger with more attractions, and places to eat.

I love Galveston and I have been wanting to go to that Pleasure Pier! It just opened, I think. There is also Seawolf Park (http://www.galveston.com/seawolfpark...m/seawolfpark/) where you can tour The Cavalla (memorial to the lost USS Seawolf) and the USS Stewart, one of the only two destroyers in the U.S.
live in such a way that if anyone should speak badly of you no one would believe it ♥
    coffee addict!
