So I wanted to make Vegetable soup from this recipe:
I have a can of stewed tomato's I just wondered if there was any substitute? I thought about water, but didn't want it to be too bland?

The only alternative I could find was 1/2 tomato sauce and 1/2 ater...but I don't think that helps you
![]() maybe you could put the tomatoes in the blender and then add the jiuce it came in and then a little water???

2 1/2 cups water and 6 ounces of tomato paste plus a 3/4 teaspoon of salt and a dash of sugar makes 3 cups of tomato juice substitute. So for a 64 oz can you would need enough for 8 cups.

Do you have jarred marinara sauce? That will work too. I would add the canned tomatoes. You can either use a pair of kitchen shears to cut up the tomatoes while they're still in the can, or chop them really fine with a knife.
Um ... 46 ounces of tomato juice is a pretty substantial part of the recipe. You could substitute it for stock or broth, but it won't taste the same.
