Necroposting? - Site Information

I've looked everywhere I thought this would be addressed but I can't find it

Is there a rule stating how far back we are allowed to go in replying to threads?

I only go 3/4 pages back when browsing different areas, so I don't end up going back a long time.

Or can we just reply to whatever we want without a concern for the date of the original posting?

They like you to read the whole thread. So you can give advice or chat it up to exactly what is going on.

Use "new posts" button.

If it's not in new posts, generally you should just start a new thread if it's something you want to discuss. You won't be exiled for bumping old ones - it just gets confusing sometimes.

I was just wondering, because I know some other forums I'm part of don't want you bumping threads from earlier in the year, etc.

Its best to use common sense. We've had people bump threads that are 2 years old. I usually won't bump something more than 3 days old.

I think it depends. I mean if you look at it and its a problem and the date is over a year old chances are that they have solved it.

I will bump my own old threads that are informative.

Maybe threads could come with expiration dates, depending on the forum and the topic?
